Everton Super Fans pleased with Ben Godfrey return

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Everton Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Goodison News Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Goodison Park.

Ben Godfrey returned to the starting lineup for Everton in their 3-1 victory against Burnley on Monday night.

The England international was brought off on the hour mark for Andre Gomes which saw Rafa Benitez change the formation from a back three to a 4-3-3.

It proved to be a masterstroke as the Toffees went on to win the game, but Godfrey’s return was something that was celebrated by fans on social media.

Thus far, he was in isolation and was yet to make an appearance under Benitez.

The Spaniard saw enough of him in training to throw him straight into the playing eleven, much to the delight of the fans.

Here’s what they said:

Fantastic player

Since his move to Goodison Park last summer, Godfrey has been phenomenal for the club and Benitez must have been delighted to have him back.

Given Michael Keane’s goal, he’s probably not going to drop him for the next game, but one can see why Godfrey will eventually replace the former Manchester United defender.

Defensively, he’s more agile, is quicker on the tackle and on foot is more versatile than Keane.

He gives the manager so many different options and has that youthful charisma that instantly connects with the fans.

Should Godfrey stay at the club for the next five to seven years, we wouldn’t be surprised if he has the captain’s armband on.
