David Unsworth hails Everton starlet Charlie Whitaker
Everton starlet Charlie Whitaker has been praised by David Unsworth after he helped the Toffees’ Under-21s beat Morecambe in the EFL Trophy.
The Toffees managed to secure a 1-0 win over the League One side on Tuesday night thanks to a goal from Sean McAllister. Still, Whitaker’s performance impressed the former Everton caretaker manager [Everton’s official website].
Whitaker has been tipped as one player to watch in the future, and if he keeps playing like this, then it won’t be that long until we see the 17-year-old in the first team.
Unsworth said: “I’m very proud of the players and the staff.
“Every player was outstanding in terms of effort and desire.
“The midfield boys worked their socks off, and Charlie Whitaker was outstanding [in attack]; he worked tirelessly.”
Another one to watch out for?
In the past, Whitaker has been tipped to break into the first team by Unsworth, and though he didn’t score, he clearly played well [Liverpool Echo].
However, he seems to have the right attitude for a young forward and has scored 14 goals for the Toffees’ youth sides.
There are a few other players from the academy who have been tipped to have bright futures in Anthony Gordon and Lewis Dobbin.
Both have been in and around the first team and are seen as the brightest talents to come from the academy.
However, Whitaker could certainly be one to keep an eye on as the years pass by and remember, he is only 17, so he has plenty of time to make a big impact on the first team.
Certainly, he appears to be doing all the right things, and we hope to see him in the first team sooner rather than later.
