Everton Super Fans blown away by Doucoure after comparisons to Kante

This is part of a regular series from our panel of Everton Super Fans. Each week, Super Fans from our Goodison News Facebook page will deliver their verdicts on the biggest talking points and news stories around Goodison Park.

Owen Hargreaves recently compared Everton midfielder Abdoulaye Doucoure to Chelsea player and 2018 World Cup winner N’Golo Kante.

After the 3-1 win over Burnley, speaking on Premier League Productions’ post-match show, Hargreaves said, “He’s much like Kante. It depends on the team.

“If you have someone defensive sitting then he has the energy and the legs to go forward or if there’s someone attacking then he prefers sitting back.”

Kante is widely regarded as one of the best defensive midfielders of this generation and is continuing to put in terrific performances in every game.

Doucoure, who’s not quite at that level, certainly has some similarities to his game, and the fans have been in awe of what he brings to the table for the Toffees.

While most of them were quite honest by stating Kante was the superior player, none underestimated what he brought to the table for the Blues.

Here’s what they said:

Some player

Doucoure is very highly rated by the Goodison Park faithful so these comparisons may not have come as a big surprise for them.

Since his acquisition from Watford, he’s fit in perfectly and has thrived under every manager who’s been in charge.

His ability to defend as well as attack makes him an extremely special midfield talent and Everton are lucky to have a player like him on their books.

Still only 28, he’s got at least three or four more years at his best and barring any injuries, we’re expecting to see him starting week in and week out.

Fans will be hoping that no big club comes in for him as he’s certainly got the ability to play for sides challenging for Champions League titles.
