Carlton Palmer expects Benitez to get the best out of Iwobi

Rafa Benitez may be able to get the best out of Alex Iwobi at Everton, claims Carlton Palmer.

The 25-year-old moved to Goodison Park in the summer of 2019, but has failed to establish himself as a first-team regular at the club and only started one of four Premier League games this season.

He’s shown glimpses of his brilliance, but they have been few and far between, but Palmer believes that Benitez could help elevate his game.

Speaking to The Transfer Tavern, he said, “You go to a club like Everton, which is a completely different style of play to the way that Arsenal have played and education, but by now you’d think he would understand the way that Everton play and what he’d be required to do.

“He is a pacey winger, so let’s see. Rafael is a very, very good coach – we all know that – so maybe he can get the best out of him.”

Good start

Given Benitez’s summer kitty, the onus was on him to work with what he has and sign players for free, and thus far he’s done a pretty decent job.

The likes of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend, both of whom were not seen as marquee signings, have enjoyed good starts to their Everton careers.

He’s also got the team to play an exciting brand of football and is working extremely hard to improve his current crop of players.

However, the board must free up some funds for him in January as he is the right man to take this club forward and cannot do so without strengthening the squad.

Thus far, he’s handled the James Rodriguez situation well, and we believe he’s created a harmonious situation behind the scenes at Goodison Park.

Hopefully, Iwobi and the likes are handed more opportunities in the coming weeks as they’re exciting prospects and on their day, can terrify the best of teams.
