Victor Anichebe impressed with Everton's performances under Benitez

Everton are flying at the moment with three Premier League wins and a draw secured in their opening four games of the new campaign.

The Toffees are fourth in the top-flight table as a result, and Rafa Benitez is starting to win over the critics and doubters.

Former Toffees striker Victor Anichebe is loving the performances of his old side, but he never expected them to hit the ground running under the new manager.

He told Sky Sports (as shared on Football Daily official Twitter account): “I didn’t expect such a fast start. There was no doubting the quality of Rafa, but I didn’t expect such a fast start.

“I thought it might take a while for the players to change from the way Carlo was to how Rafa is, and they have come this season again and started really well.

“Hopefully, they can continue for the rest of the season. They started well last season but tailed off towards the end. Hopefully, this can be for the whole season.

“Hopefully they can continue the run (against Aston Villa and Norwich City). Dominic Calvert-Lewin is a big loss for them. I think Salomon Rondon is a really good signing. Richarlison as well, Demarai Gray is doing exceptionally well. Andros Townsend is a great Premier League player, and (Abdoulaye) Doucoure as well.”

Great start

It is not every time a Premier League team begins life under a new manager on an impressive note, and many have been surprised with how Everton have quickly adapted to the style of the Spaniard.

The Toffees have still not fully clicked as the players are continuing to learn the methods of the ever-demanding tactician, and they may become genuine top-six contenders going forward this season if they continue to develop at this rate.

Anichebe is not alone in his thinking and observation, but what everyone wants to know is if the Goodison Park outfit can maintain momentum and remain consistent all through the campaign.

They struggled with that last term, eventually finishing the season on a disappointing note despite a bright start, and Benitez knows that must change this season.

The former Liverpool boss is yet to completely win over the Everton faithful, and only an impressive campaign will put him in their good books.

In other Everton news, Andros Townsend has tipped one Toffees player to reach the very top.
