Rafa Benitez: Andros Townsend is okay despite injury worry vs Norwich City

Everton secured a comfortable 2-0 victory over Norwich City on Saturday, with goals from Andros Townsend and Abdoulaye Doucoure getting the job done.

The English attacker, 30, put the Toffees ahead from the spot 29 minutes into the game before the Frenchman doubled their lead in the second-half.

Townsend was withdrawn for Anthony Gordon right before Doucoure’s goal, and he went straight down tunnel for treatment.

Rafa Benitez has provided a positive update after the game, insisting the winger is fine.

The Athletic journalist Patrick Boyland provided the information through his personal Twitter account.

He said: “Benitez says Townsend ok. No injury – just tired.”

Huge boost

Everton currently have Dominic Calvert-Lewin, Richarlison and Seamus Coleman all nursing injuries, and they cannot afford to have more players unavailable for selection.

With two of their key attackers out, having Townsend available has been a boost, and they need him right now more than ever.

The free summer signing has two Premier League goals and two assists to his name in six appearances, while he assisted once and scored twice in as many League Cup games.

Everton did well to immediately bounce back after last weekend’s 3-0 loss to Aston Villa and their elimination from the League Cup at the hands of Queens Park Rangers during the week.

Townsend has been an inspired addition to the Toffees’ attack, and Benitez is surely a relieved man to know that he is not injured.

Apart from his goals and assists, the work-rate of the former Crystal Palace man has been superb, and the Blues have got a quality player on their hands.
