Rafa Benitez details Everton stance on Serge Aurier
Rafa Benitez has all but ruled out Everton pursuing Serge Aurier as a free transfer as he’s eyeing long term solutions.
The former Tottenham right-back’s contract at the London club expired, making him a free agent.
Given Everton’s pursuit of a right-back all summer, they were linked with a move for the 28-year-old as well.

However, Benitez has thrown cold water on the speculation.
In his press conference, when asked about Aurier and transfers in January he said, via The Liverpool Echo, “I don’t see a clear option with that. Now we need to find solutions, but we have to be sure the solutions are not just for the next couple of months
“The idea and the plan was very clear before, and we couldn’t do it for different reasons.
“I can read the newspapers, I can watch the TV but especially the local newspapers and know what fans want. Hopefully, we can be ready for the next transfer window.”
Need a right-back soon
If Benitez has said that Aurier seems to be for the short term then he probably has someone in mind for the longer term.
Everton seem highly unlikely to sign a free agent and their next acquisition would be in January.
It is imperative that the club sign a right-back after their failed summer pursuit of Denzel Dumfries.

Given Seamus Coleman’s age and recent injury record, it is the need of the hour as Benitez cannot afford to rely on Ben Godfrey to play out of position each time.
Jonjoe Kenny has clearly proven that he is not up to the ask and would possibly be shipped off should another right-back walk through the door.
The Spaniard has done well under a tight budget so far but will need to spend if he is to strengthen this squad further.
