Everton should look to sign Luka Jovic in January

Everton are looking to sign Real Madrid duo Isco and Luka Jovic in the January transfer window, according to Defensa Central.

The Toffees operated on a tight budget in the summer, and Rafael Benitez probably won’t be given a hefty transfer kitty to do business in January as well.

Of the two players, Benitez should look to bring Jovic from his former club and reject the chance to sign Isco, although the latter has enjoyed a trophy-laden career at the Bernabeu.

Having sold a 30-year-old James Rodriguez this month, it would be highly ludicrous to sign a 29-year-old attacking midfielder who doesn’t fit into an archetypal Benitez system, at least in theory.

Jovic, on the other hand, could be a cracking signing. The Serbia international excelled at Eintracht Frankfurt scoring 27 goals in 48 games in 2018-19, which earned him a move to Madrid in the summer of 2019.

However, he has only managed 36 appearances in all competitions in the past three seasons and spent time on loan at Frankfurt in 2020-21.

Jovic is a quality striker but he has plenty to prove after a nightmare spell with Madrid. Like Andros Townsend and Demarai Gray, he would be looking to revive his career and would come with a hunger to succeed.

At 23, Jovic has the peak years ahead of him. All he needs is regular games to get the confidence back. Everton need a quality striker who could compete alongside Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and Jovic could be the solution.
