Michael Ball wants to see Everton sign a couple of new players in the January transfer window

Writing in his column for the Liverpool Echo, Ball revealed his hopes for the January transfer window after the Toffees managed to move James Rodriguez on and, in the process, save a huge amount of money on wages.

The Toffees have started the season brilliantly, but injuries to Seamus Coleman, Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison have shown that the squad is thin in certain areas, and Ball wants to see those concerns addressed.

He said: “With [Rodriguez] gone, hopefully, Rafa can get us to January in a good position, and he is able to bring one or two in as I think our position in the table in January will determine what the club is willing to do in the transfer market.

“Hopefully, there is now money there and money for Rafa to spend if needed, and he can get the right player in, not just in the short term but in the long term.”

Interesting claim from Ball.

The former Everton man clearly isn’t expecting his old team to go mad in the January transfer market, but he also wants to see a couple of players arrive.

Now that Rodriguez has left, you would think that the club could divert those funds into Rafael Benitez’s transfer funds as the Toffees look to strengthen their squad.

Of course, January is quite far away, but the Spaniard suggested last week that he is already thinking about the window and warned the club that they have to be ready to act [Liverpool Echo].

Ball seems to be echoing this message from Benitez, and we would be very surprised if the Toffees weren’t active in January as they look to give the Spaniard what he wants.

In the summer transfer window, the Toffees spent a tiny amount of money.

Still, the likes of Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend are already making a good impression, so we are excited to see what happens in January.

In other Everton news, the club have made contact with a Serie A star.
