Everton closer to Ellis Simms contract than Lewis Dobbin
Everton are closer to agreeing a new contract for Ellis Simms than Lewis Dobbin, according to Greg O’Keeffe.
The Athletic journalist has agreed that the future of both attacking talents is a concern at Goodison Park after the summer drama with Thierry Small.
O’Keeffe insisted it was “difficult” and that the future of both could still go either way ahead of the January window.
Writing in his latest Athletic Mailbag, O’Keeffe shared if there had been any progress made on the contract talks.
“It is definitely a concern,” he wrote. “Especially with Lewis Dobbin and Ellis Simms.
“It’s also a very difficult one to answer and, if I’m honest, could still go either way. I feel Benitez’s inclusion of both in recent squads will help encourage them there is a first-team pathway for them at Everton but I’d say it’s far from guaranteed they will put pen to paper.
“My hunch is that Simms is closer to agreeing a deal than Dobbin at present.”
Dobbin the concern.
The main concern out of these two is certainly Dobbin.
Benitez has already handed the young talent his Premier League debut this season, clearly showing he has caught the eye ahead of his challengers such as Simms.
Despite talks being open for quite some time, the Toffees appear to have made no breakthrough which is certainly concerning.
Last month, several Premier League and Bundesliga clubs were linked with a move for Dobbin, and they will be circling if no breakthrough is made sooner rather than later [Caught Offside].
As for Simms, that one should be more straight forward but if not, we can’t imagine that he would be massively missed on Merseyside.
