Kevin Campbell: Everton set for January move as Serge Aurier transfer missed
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton are ready to make a major move for a new right-back in the January window.
Serge Aurier was strongly linked with a free-agent move to Goodison Park but has since completed a switch to Villareal.
Campbell doesn’t believe the Toffees missed out, and that the Toffees will instead look for another option in January.
Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “I’m not sure whether they missed out on him because they’ve looked at him and they know what he can do.
“Maybe he just wasn’t for them, maybe it just wasn’t the right time or not the right fit for Rafa Benitez. They’d rather wait their time until January and make some moves then.
“It’s all good.”
Not good enough.
Aurier may be a big name after his spell at Tottenham under managers such as Jose Mourinho, but let’s be honest, he was nowhere near good enough.
The Ivorian was awful at defending and only caught the eye going forward on the odd occasion for Spurs.
Seamus Coleman is at the wrong end of his career and may need a younger understudy to come in when he isn’t available.
The veteran is solid at the back and still offers great quality going forward, so Benitez will want someone similar to offer competition and Aurier certainly isn’t that.
