Kevin Campbell shares if Everton will be worried by Newcastle takeover

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton will not be worried by the recent takeover of Newcastle United in the past week.

The new Magpies’ owners are worth over £300billion and some are concerned that they are new rivals for the Toffees to compete with in the league and in the transfer window.

Campbell believes that the Financial Fair Play rules will have a huge say on their plans in years to come, predicting struggles similar to Everton at times.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell said, “This is the Premier League, it’s a competition.

“I don’t think Everton’s noses are out of joint because somebody has a new owner who takes over with billions, I don’t think that’s the problem.

“For me, I just think it’s about Everton getting it right tob move into the new stadium and they’ve got to want to have to compete at a regular basis.

“What we do know is, Rafa Benitez wants to buy players and bring in players in January – FFP plays a massive part in this, having it is one thing but having it marry up with what is happening at the football club financially, it’s going to be difficult for Newcastle at times.”

Years behind.

Many may fear that adding another rival into the mix with big money may make things harder for Everton.

While that may be true, it won’t happen for many years yet when you take everything into account at St James’ Park.

Realistically, outside of Alan Saint-Maximin, Callum Wilson and Joe Willock, the Magpies need potentially a whole new squad with 10 or more signings.

The Toffees only need two or three signings to turn their squad into one capable of pushing for Europe every single year, and that could happen in January and next summer.

Campbell is spot on, there will be no panic yet at Goodison Park.
