Kevin Keatings stunned Everton star Yerry Mina after Colombia controversy

Everton star Yerry Mina was at the heart of major controversy this morning as Colombia drew 0-0 against Ecuador.

The enforcer thought he had scored the winner with the final kick of the game, causing mass hysteria in the stadium, only for it to be disallowed.

Kevin Keatings was live on commentary for the game, and he couldn’t believe his eyes ahead of the VAR decision that broke Colombia hearts.

Speaking on Premier Sports last night, Keatings was stunned by the celebrations around the stadium.

“Goal, Colombia have won it,” he said. “Unbelievable finish here.

“This stadium in delirium, Yerry Mina – who stabbed it home in the melee, the Everton defender is surely a matchwinner for Colombia.

Those scenes didn’t last though as the Toffees man was made to look foolish by VAR ruling out his goal and celebrations.

Wow.

Keatings, a regular commentator for Sky Sports throughout his career has surely never seen anything like this before.

Scoring the winner in the 100th minute with the final kick of the game is special, but to see it disallowed is gut-wrenching.

Mina will still be thinking about this one during his long trip back to Merseyside today and into tomorrow, and reminiscing on what could have been.

With a crucial game against West Ham coming up on Sunday, though, he won’t have long to think about it before returning to Premier League action.

It is a race against time on whether Mina will be able to feature, let’s just hope there is a better outcome than this one for everyone involved.
