Fabrizio Romano: Van de Beek could stay if Ole leaves

Everton-linked Donny van de Beek could be handed a second lease of life at Manchester United should Ole Gunnar Solskjaer leave, claims Fabrizio Romano.

The Red Devils lost 5-0 at home to Liverpool on Sunday, meaning that the manager’s job is on a knife-edge.

Romano himself admitted that the club are considering his future, and that could have ramifications for Everton who have been linked with a move for the Dutch international. [Sky Sports]

Speaking on the United Stand on Monday [25/10/21], the Sky Sports Italy journalist said: “I am sure if they make a change he [van de Beek] will be prepared to fight for his place.

“If they will change, then I think he’ll be one of the first players looking to prove a point to the new manager. They have many midfielders but it also depends on the new manager.

“If he’s not even playing under the new manager as well then he will leave as he desperately wants to play.”

Bad news

For the sake of Everton and the other Premier League clubs getting an easy run against Manchester United, Solskjaer needs to stay.

However, given how things have gone sour over the last month, it seems unlikely that he’s going to be there for too long.

This would mean that van de Beek may consider staying there, especially if the new manager likes him, someone like his former coach Erik ten Hag.

It’s clear that Solskjaer doesn’t rate the Dutchman so Everton’s chances of signing him are higher with the Norweigian in charge.

The Toffees must look to sign him in January as he’s the kind of player who will add that X-Factor in the middle of the park.

With Abdoulaye Doucoure’s injury, signing a midfielder is an absolute priority even though he might be back in time before the window opens.

Having a creative presence in the middle of the park gives teams that extra spark and sometimes when they’re playing against low blocks, players like van de Beek are the ones who can make a difference.
