Everton still want to sign Aleksandr Golovin but price tag is a concern

Everton are still keen on signing Aleksandr Golovin from AS Monaco, but his £40million price tag could make any move difficult.

The Liverpool Echo report that Rafael Benitez is a big fan of the 25-year-old Russian international, but any move in January could be impossible.

The Spaniard is said to want a new central midfielder in the January transfer window, and Championat linked him with a move for Golovin, but that looks unlikely as things stand.

A lot of money for a good player.

The Russian international could be exactly what Benitez is looking for. He is still relatively young but has huge amounts of international experience.

He has made 85 appearances in Ligue 1 and scored 13 goals and provided 17 assists, which is a good record for a natural central midfielder.

This season, he has scored three goals and provided three assists in all competitions, which would put him above Abdoulaye Doucoure for goals but below him for assists.

He has also been described as “sensational” by the Ligue 1 website in the past, so he is a player who has done enough to impress many people.

However, given the Toffees’ financial situation, £40million could be almost impossible, and they might have to park this move until next summer.

Golovin could attract interest from elsewhere in January, but the Toffees will just have to hope that Monaco fend off other interest so they can look at him again in the summer as a winter move seems very unlikely.
