Kevin Campbell explains why Everton fans are frustrated

We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…

Kevin Campbell thinks Everton fans are concerned and that there’s a sense of frustration following a run of poor results at the moment.

The former Toffees striker suggests that losing key players like Richarlison and Dominic Calvert-Lewin is one thing, and a meek surrender against a struggling Brentford side is another.

Speaking exclusively to Goodison News, Campbell has revealed what the fans expect from the team. He said: “Yeah. They are just concerned. There’s frustration, I think.

“That’s as much as anything. These are long-suffering fans who’ve seen so many false dawns.

“The way the teams started, it was good, and they were right behind the team.

“Obviously losing Richarlison and Calvert-Lewin is one thing and it’s difficult to replace those guys, but seeing a performance on the pitch like that against a Brentford team, who were really struggling, let’s be honest, they haven’t won in [seven], you expect more from Everton.

“They didn’t get it so they’re going to be frustrated, and it reflects in the end.”

The Toffees have now failed to win in their last seven Premier League games, and the pressure is gradually mounting on Rafa Benitez.

The Spaniard insists that the fans are intelligent and has urged them to get behind the side when they take on Liverpool in the Merseyside derby.

However, the truth is, Everton should be doing better than this, despite the injury blows.

The performance against Brentford was very poor and the travelling fans were right to voice their frustration.

The thing is the relationship could further deteriorate, and the situation could get hostile if Everton come up with another poor performance against the Reds at Goodison Park on Wednesday night.
