Jim White shares Farhad Moshiri text on Rafa Benitez future after Everton lose 4-1 to Liverpool

Jim White has shared a text message from Farhad Moshiri the morning after Everton lost 4-1 to Liverpool in the Merseyside derby at Goodison Park.

Everton were well beaten by their local rivals on Wednesday (1 December), a result that has piled the pressure on Rafa Benitez whose future appears uncertain.

‘We’ve heard from the man Moshiri this morning,” broadcaster White shared on talkSPORT‘s ‘White and Jordan’ show on Thursday (2 December).

“Should we expect there to be a fall guy and should we expect it to be Rafa Benitez?

“Well, to answer that question, when I got in the building this morning I got in touch with the owner Farhad Moshiri who is in the United States at the moment, he wasn’t there last night, and it’s a simple question to Farhad and, to be fair, he got back to me.

“The bottom line is this; this was my message to Farhad – ‘Can you text me a message to the fans, do you still back Rafa this morning’ and Farhad Moshiri has replied ‘yes, football is about crisis one day and glory the following day, Rafa is a good manager and underperformance is largely due to the injuries. [In the] next two weeks we will get to a full squad. In the meantime, the results will improve. Rafa needs time to have his mark on the squad, he will be supported to add depth to the squad, managers need time, I have no doubt we will have a strong second half to the season’.”

Holding on

Well, from the language used in the text shared by White on talkSPORT, it seems that Moshiri is backing his man to the hilt, and is refusing to countenance the thought of sacking him.

That’s likely to cause consternation among the Goodison faithful who turned on Benitez last night after another humiliating defeat, this time at the hands of their great rivals.

Everton are now winless in their last eight games and hurtling towards the Premier League relegation zone.

Benitez is not wholly to blame with injuries and suspensions rocking his squad, as well as the inability to spend more than £1.7million in the summer transfer window.

He may get a boost in that regard during the January window as Moshiri makes reference to Benitez getting backed to improve his squad.

But, for now, he will have to soldier on without new signings, and he will hope to have the likes of Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Yerry Mina back as soon as possible.
