Arsenal under pressure to sell Everton target Ainsley Maitland-Niles

Arsenal are reportedly under pressure to sell the Everton-linked central midfielder Ainsley Maitland-Niles in the January transfer window.

According to the Daily Mail, the Toffees hold a long-term interest in the 24-year-old.

He was told by Mikel Arteta in the summer that he would get more playing time this season, but that promise hasn’t been held up and now he’s set to demand an exit in the winter.

Worth it

Maitland-Niles may be a central midfielder per se, but is adept at playing in a plethora of positions.

He’s performed exceptionally well at full-back and can put in a shift out wide as well.

While he’s not the best technically, he’s got bags of energy and his versatility certainly makes up for the additional flaws in his game.

At 24, he’s at the prime age to take his career to the next level with regular game time at a club like Everton.

Sport Bible have referred to his ability to take spot-kicks as “incredible” – which would give the Toffees someone who can be in charge of their dead-ball situations.

It remains to be seen whether or not their interest is renewed post Marcel Brands’ exit or if they’ve changed their transfer strategy.

Either way, the club must look at players like him if they are to reach the next level.
