Rafael Benitez discusses Salomon Rondon's fitness for Everton
Rafael Benitez has confirmed Salomon Rondon is fit and available for selection for Everton.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference [Liverpool Echo], the Spaniard confirmed that the 32-year-old had recovered from the injury that saw him miss the Arsenal match [06 December].
The former Newcastle United striker suffered a slight hamstring problem in the Merseyside derby against Liverpool [01 December].
The big forward has yet to score for his new club, but he could provide Benitez with another option on Sunday, either from the start or from the bench.
Benitez said: “Rondon is available and has been training.”
Could Rondon make the difference?
Now, Rondon’s move to Goodison Park has not gone to plan so far.
The striker has looked unfit and largely non-threatening; however, there were signs that he was getting better against Brentford [28 November].
The forward started the game, had a few chances and should have been awarded a penalty in the first half when his shirt was ripped off his back.
Now, it remains to be seen if that was just a false dawn or if he is finally starting to get his match fitness up to Premier League levels.
He has proved that he can play in this league and perform to a high standard, so the question is, can he finally get that goal?
Well, Crystal Palace on Sunday could be the opportunity he has been waiting for.
The Eagles aren’t in great form, and if Rondon starts or is on the bench, he has to be ready to come on and make an impact.
In other Everton news, Benitez has had his say on the Lucas Digne situation.
