Everton must move for Anthony Martial in January

Everton should make a move for Anthony Martial in the January transfer window.

The Frenchman has dropped down the pecking order at Manchester United, and his agent has revealed yesterday (10 December) that the player wants to leave in January.

“Anthony wishes to leave the club in January. He just needs to play. He doesn’t want to stay in January and I will speak to the club soon,” Martial’s agent said to Sky Sports.

Martial hasn’t started a Premier League game since the 1-1 draw with Everton and has struggled with injuries.

After just four starts in all competitions since August, it is clear that Martial, who was praised by Gary Lineker for a “stunning” goal last year, needs to move on to reignite his career.

Everton were linked [The Mirror] with a move for the 26-year-old in the summer, and Rafa Benitez must try to sign him in January.

Although he has three years left on his contract with an option of extending for a further year, Martial’s willingness to move elsewhere could help Everton secure his signature.

If money is an issue now, the Toffees can agree a loan deal with a view to a permanent move next summer.

Martial is a versatile forward who can play on the wing as also as a striker. When he is on song, he is simply a joy to watch.

He needs a manager who can trust him and get the best out of him. Everton need to bolster their forward department, and Martial, with loads of Premier League experience, fits the bill nicely.

He will be hungry to prove a point, and Benitez can tap into that potential, similar to what he has done with Demarai Gray.
