Vitaliy Mykolenko flight to England mooted amid Everton links

Everton have reportedly moved a step closer to securing their first January signing as Vitaliy Mykolenko flew into England earlier today (December 16).

According to the Liverpool Echo, the Toffees have set their sights on signing the 22-year-old from Dynamo Kyiv with the Ukrainian side demanding a fee in the region of £20million.

Telekom Sport have quoted Kyiv boss Mircea Lucescu as saying, “Vitaliy Mykolenko is going to Everton. He will be the first big transfer out of Dynamo since Yarmolenko.”

Goodbye Digne?

Mykolenko comes in highly recommended, having impressed for Ukraine at Euro 2020.

At 22, he’s not just seen as one for the present but can also be at the club for years to come and possibly make the left-back spot his own.

This puts serious doubts on the future of Lucas Digne at the club, who has been undroppable for the last three years.

Not only did he cement his spot in the eleven, he was arguably the most consistent player since his move to Goodison Park.

Having been a constant attacking threat down the left, it came as a surprise as to why Rafa Benitez suddenly dropped him.

We later learned that they had a falling out over tactical issues, but it now seems like a left-back has come in to replace him.

Given the sort of transfer fee that’s mentioned, we fear that it’s planned after considering Digne’s sale in January.
