Napoli eye move for Everton defender Yerry Mina in January

Serie A giants Napoli are considering making a move for Everton defender Yerry Mina in the January window, according to reports from Calciomercato.

Napoli defender Kostas Manolas will secure a move to Olympiakos in January, and they are searching for replacements.

The report claims that Napoli are interested in Mina, and they are plotting a way to sign him with a loan-to-buy deal being mooted.

Tricky

Mina has a contract at Everton till 2023, and the club need to take a strong decision on him.

The 27-year-old is an “unbelievable” defender (hailed by Kevin Keatings), and arguably the best at the club when he is fit. And there lies the biggest problem – he rarely stays fit.

It becomes difficult for any manager to set up his plans when one of your key players perennially remains injured.

Mina returned after a long injury lay off against Arsenal, and within 40 minutes he got injured once again. It has reached a point where the club is getting frustrated with him.

Napoli are planning to sign him on loan with an option to buy him in the summer. Otherwise, they will have to pay around £17m for his signature.

The first option is simply not possible. Everton are struggling with finances, and selling your top player, even though he is not playing on loan, doesn’t make any sense.
