Everton rebuild gathers pace, new midfielder is now January priority – The Athletic

Everton have made a new midfielder as their priority for the rest of the January transfer window, according to The Athletic.

The online outlet has reported that Rafa Benitez is now keen to add reinforcements in that area at Goodison Park.

Fabian Delph is in the final six months of his current deal, and Andre Gomes is still failing to shine in that role.

Writing for The Athletic, Patrick Boyland shared what to expect at Goodison Park from the rest of the month.

“With Fabian Delph’s contract also due to expire at the end of the season, Benitez is keen to add reinforcements in midfield,” he wrote.

“Expect that to be his priority for the remainder of January as Everton’s rebuild gathers pace.”

Needed.

It is very clear that this is needed, but that isn’t the only problem.

Abdoulaye Doucoure and Allan have no real competition pushing them, and that is really starting to show in their performances.

Adding someone such as Sean Longstaff, who has been strongly linked, could unleash someone like Doucoure further forward, where he is at his best.

The final third is not looking great either, with injuries ravaging through our squad, especially this season.

Sales will be needed, though, and should a big offer come in for Lucas Digne, expect a new midfielder and possibly even a new attacker – we can all dream.
