Peter Reid responds to Rafa Benitez comments on Lucas Digne situation

Peter Reid has responded to Rafa Benitez’ comments on the ongoing Everton feud between himself and Lucas Digne.

The Toffees legend insisted that if a player had told him he wanted to leave, he wouldn’t be on the bench just as the Frenchman was against Brighton.

Benitez namedropped Reid in his press conference today (07 January), something the legend admitted he didn’t take as a “dig.”

Writing on his personal Twitter account, Reid responded to the claims that the Spaniard was taking a “dig” at him.

“I didn’t take what Rafa said as a dig,” he wrote.

“If Digne didn’t want to play for Everton and wanted a move, he would not have made the bench. COYB.”

No favours.

Benitez is not exactly helping himself, here, and is only making things worst for himself at Goodison Park.

Namedropping legends won’t automatically make you more friends or fans, and it looks to have gone the other way on social media.

Reid is right, though, if Digne had told Benitez that he wanted to leave, something he admitted today, why on earth was he in the squad and placed on the bench against Brighton?

He doesn’t care based on that admission, so bringing him on only makes matters worst and the sooner he leaves, the better.

As for Benitez, this could be a lesson not to do things like this in the future and play things on the straight and narrow for the weeks and months to come.
