Everton want to sign Bournemouth defender Lloyd Kelly

Everton want to sign Bournemouth’s English defender Lloyd Kelly in January, according to The Sunday Mirror (09/01/2022).

The former Premier League centre-back has amassed 109 league appearances over the course of his six-year career and is now being eyed by West Ham as well as Newcastle.

Kelly, 23, is the captain of the Championship side, so it remains to be seen whether or not they allow him to leave in this transfer window.

Good move

Signing players from the Championship always means that clubs save on big transfer fees.

Such names are not targeted by the super-rich clubs in the Premier League and Europe, so the likes of Everton can snap up bargains for good value.

The Toffees’ recent transfer business has been everything but, as they have overpaid for a number of signings over the past three years.

Under Rafa Benitez, this could be a change in the way they do business and Marcel Brands’ exit could see the Spaniard have free reign over ins and outs.

The 23-year-old Kelly is fighting for promotion and even if he secures it with the Cherries, he will be in a relegation dog fight next season.

Instead, if he chooses to move to Goodison Park, not only will he get a pay hike, but will also be challenging for the top half and possibly for European places.

Benitez also has plenty of name recognition and could convince the player to leave the Vitlaity Stadium.

In other Everton news, the club want to sign a player labelled ‘Excellent’ by Cristiano Ronaldo with the European club keen on cashing in.
