Victory at a cost, FA Cup triumph could hamper Everton

Finally, Everton fans have a victory to cheer about after a 3-2 extra-time win over Hull City in the FA Cup on Saturday (8 January).

And while Rafael Benitez will be glad they avoided defeat against lower league opposition, it comes at a cost for the Toffees.

As detailed by The Athletic, Everton have a quick turnaround to contend with before they welcome Leicester City to Goodison Park on Tuesday (11 January).

The Foxes will be well-rested for the match having brushed aside fellow Premier League side Watford while resting crucial personnel such as Jamie Vardy, Timothy Castagne and Luke Thomas.

Everton meanwhile fielded a strong side and required previously rested Abdoulaye Doucoure and Andros Townsend to come off the bench to win the game.

Playing a strong side wouldn’t have been an issue had the Toffees got the job done in 90 minutes but the extra half hour of extra time is a big ask with another game three days away.

Key figures Allan, Michael Keane and new signing Vitaliy Mykolenko played all 120 minutes and asking them to do another 90 on Tuesday is a big ask.

With all things being even, Leciester would likely be favourites for the game regardless but the extra stress on the Evertonian’s might swing the pendulum in their favour even more.

It isn’t all sunshine and rainbows for Leicester though with Wilfried Ndidi, Kelechi Iheanacho, Patson Daka and Nampalys Mendy all at the Africa Cup of Nations.

Despite this though, Tuesday will be tough for Benitez’s players as the pressure ramps up on the Toffees boss.

In other Everton news, a bid is expected to be made for this ‘fantastic’ PL player.
