Keith Hackett: Hull fans throwing bottles at Everton players can expect lifetime bans

We’re delighted to welcome former Premier League referee Keith Hackett as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Keith Hackett has insisted that Hull City fans found guilty of throwing bottles at Everton players will get punished.

The ex-Premier League referee believes that it should be a lifetime ban enforced by the club for their behaviour in the FA Cup clash.

Hackett admitted the rise in incidents is “hugely worrying” with something needed to be done as soon as possible.

“I think these are hugely worrying,” he exclusively told Goodison News.

“In recent weeks, we’ve had a number of incidents where objects have been thrown. It’s so dangerous, it’s untrue.

“I know that the police take a very proactive approach, they have a huge amount of security cameras, and many of them are actually not facing the pitch, they’re facing the fans.

“Therefore, I expect in these instances where objects have been thrown, those individuals will be found out and punished accordingly.

“For me, it’s a lifetime ban minimum.”

This is shocking, and the worst thing about it was that it wasn’t even after a goal – which still wouldn’t be acceptable.

Fans can complain that they are being enticed by players, but this was from the East Stand when a simple throw-in was being taken.

If grown supporters can’t control themselves, then they shouldn’t be allowed in the stadiums and action must be taken instantly.
