Everton want to sign Anwar El Ghazi in five-month loan from Aston Villa
Everton want to sign Aston Villa attacker Anwar El Ghazi on a five-month loan deal, according to Paul Joyce.
Writing via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday night, the Times journalist reported that the Blues are looking into a temporary deal for the 26-year-old Netherlands international.
El Ghazi has been on the fringes of the Villa squad this season for both Dean Smith and Steven Gerrard.
Do we need him?
We questioned Rafa Benitez’s decisions in the summer transfer window and in fairness, a lot of us have been proven wrong with Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend proving to be decent additions so far.
But do we need another wide player?
And do we need to be signing a fringe player from Villa on a short-term loan deal?
El Ghazi isn’t a terrible player but he’s played just nine times in the Premier League this season and only started four games.
The Dutchman is a tricky customer for defenders to deal with and he loves to cut inside with his pace and skill.
However, we just fail to see how this signing strengthens the squad when there are clear issues elsewhere in the squad.
Benitez is still being held back by the Financial Fair Play situation at Goodison and while we have our doubts about El Ghazi, Jorge Mendes’ Gestifute client may have his uses.
But we’re not going to be expecting much if this deal gets done.
