Everton want to sign Anwar El-Ghazi - John Percy
Everton are trying to sign £15million-rated forward Anwar El-Ghazi from Aston Villa, as Lucas Digne edges closer to an exit according to John Percy.
The Toffees have been linked with several players during this transfer window, but it’s the exit of Lucas Digne which has taken most of the headlines at Goodison Park.
With reports that talks were advanced enough for a medical [Florian Plettenberg], the ever-reliable Percy has reported on his Twitter account that the two clubs are still discussing a deal for Digne but separately are attempting to land Dutch winger El Ghazi.
Everton are reportedly keen to do a deal unrelated to anything with Digne, and Villa are valuing the 26-year-old at £15m which means a deal can be done.
This season El Ghazi has been limited to just four Premier League starts, scoring once.
The signing of El Ghazi would provide great depth, quality and competition in the wide areas while also providing more of a goal threat for Rafa Benitez’s side.
El Ghazi has spent three-and-a-half years at Villa Park and has scored 26 goals for the club in that time while never really holding down a certified starting spot.
While Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend have proven to be excellent signings for Benitez this season, El Ghazi adds extra quality to a squad that is struggling with depth.
They have scored just 23 goals in 18 games this season and the hope is that he would be able to improve that number quickly.
As for Digne, his exit seems inevitable and with Villa close to getting it done you would expect talks around this deal to move quickly too.
