El Ghazi to undergo Everton medical today with Digne move to Aston Villa all but done too
Everton are on the verge of signing Anwar El Ghazi with the Aston Villa attacker set to undergo a medical, according to Fabrizio Romano.
Writing on Twitter on Wednesday afternoon, the Sky Sports Italy journalist reported that El Ghazi, 26, is joining the Blues on loan from Villa.
It is understood that Lucas Digne is moving in the opposite direction and is also set to undergo a medical.
Romano adds that “both deals are done”.
Deals all but done
By the time Wednesday is over, there’s a chance that two deals will be done and dusted at Goodison Park.
Losing Digne to a Premier League rival is a blow and signing El Ghazi doesn’t really sound that thrilling as an Evertonian.
Sure, he’s had some good games for Villa and he scored several goals last season.
However, we have players who can play out wide already and we are starting to get people back from injury now.
Rafa Benitez raised a lot of doubt in the summer by signing Demarai Gray and Andros Townsend and, in fairness, those two have proven a lot of us wrong.
We hope that El Ghazi does too but we don’t get signing the 26-year-old on a short-term loan, in all honesty.
Let’s see how this pans out but the Dutch international is likely to be a back-up option for Benitez more than anything else.
In other Everton news, Villa are set to beat the Blues to signing this player.
