Kevin Campbell: Everton would have wanted more money for Lucas Digne
We’re delighted to welcome former Everton striker Kevin Campbell as our exclusive columnist. Each week the former Toffees captain will be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Goodison Park…
Kevin Campbell has insisted that Everton may have undersold Lucas Digne with his move to Aston Villa set to go through.
The ex-Toffees talisman believes that his former club will have wanted more than the suggested £25million for the Frenchman.
Sky Sports reporter Rob Dorsett reported today (12 January) that Villa will pay that fee, with the defender due for his medical later this evening.
“I think the price is ok, obviously they would have liked some more,” he exclusively told Goodison News.
“But, when you’re under the constraints of financial fair play, you’ve got to get in what you need to get in, so I think it’s a bit of good business.
“Rafa Benitez has to move and shape the squad, that’s the bottom line. Whether there is really an argument between them or just not seeing eye to eye. They need to move him on, and that’s what they’re doing.”
Everyone at the club knew they needed this deal to go through, and the clear sale in this squad was Digne.
The Frenchman didn’t want to be here, and his relationship with Benitez made sure that he would be leaving.
Getting profit was the only thing Everton needed, and this mostly pays for the deals to sign Nathan Patterson and Vitaliy Mykolenko.
£25million is a good deal, will the Toffees go back into the market with it?
