View: What does the introduction of El Ghazi mean for Gordon at Everton?
Anwar El Ghazi joining Everton could have a hugely negative impact on local starlet Anthony Gordon.
In the past few hours, the Toffees completed the signing of El Ghazi on a season-long loan from Aston Villa.
The Blues have the option to buy the Netherlands international for the fee of £8.4million if the winger impresses at Goodison Park according to Fabrizio Romano.
The signing comes as Lucas Digne heads in the opposite direction, to Villa Park.
This is the Blues third signing of the window, previously bringing in Vitaliy Mykolenko and Nathan Patterson in seriously depleted full-back positions.
With the current impact covid and injuries are having on all clubs, the Toffees have done well bringing in an experienced Premier League player.
However, there have been question marks surrounding the signing, specifically whether he is good enough to take the Blues to the next level.
What does this mean for Gordon?
Gordon has put himself firmly on the map in the Premier League in recent weeks. The youngster benefitted from the injuries and covid crisis that riddled Rafa Benitez’ squad, forcing the boss to call upon the youngsters.
The 20-year-old is one for the future at Goodison Park but has been in electrifying form when given the opportunity to play this season. He has come in and provided goals and assists as well as much needed energy in the Everton team during dire times at the club.
His form is a breath of fresh air and he will only get better the more he plays. The local lad could have suffered a fatal blow in terms of his game time with the introduction of El Ghazi on loan from Villa.
At the end of the day, El Ghazi is a loan player and shouldn’t be put in ahead of Gordon unless the 26-year-old does something exceptional.
There is a good chance El Ghazi leaves when his deal concludes at the end of the season which is why it would be a huge waste to favour him over the Blues’ home-grown talent.
Gordon has the capability of producing far better numbers for the Toffees this season and way into the future for Everton which is something that needs to be remembered.
