Everton consider Lucien Favre in list of managerial candidates

Everton are in the process of appointing their next manager after sacking Rafa Benitez over the weekend.

The results were very poor under the Spaniard and the decision was made following a 2-1 defeat against Norwich City on Saturday (15 January).

According to reports from The Athletic, former Borussia Dortmund manager Lucien Favre is also being considered as an option for the club.

The report claims that Roberto Martinez is a leading contender for the role, but the likes of Wayne Rooney and Duncan Ferguson are also among the list of initial candidates.

Interesting option

Favre will be an interesting option for the Toffees.

The 64-year-old has a wealth of managerial experience, having previously worked at Hertha Berlin, Nice, and Borussia Monchengladbach.

His last job was at Borussia Dortmund. Under him, the German giants made a superb start in 2018 when he became the first manager at the club to remain unbeaten in his first 15 Bundesliga games.

The Swiss boss won the German Super Cup with Dortmund in 2019, but the results were poor the following year and he was shown the door.

Favre loves to play dynamic and attacking-minded football. More than keeping ball possessions, his team rely on quick transitions and they are very attractive to watch.

His teams are generally well organised and he has a reputation for being a very good tactician. At times, he can be a reactive manager working his tactics by studying the opposition teams or how they are going to react.

Everton must get their next appointment right, and Favre won’t be a bad option.

In other Everton news, the Toffees are plotting January loan-to-buy bid for centre-mid hailed by Jack Grealish last month.
