Dominic Calvert-Lewin interested in Arsenal move, club to move in Jan - report
A transfer to Arsenal ‘would appeal to’ Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, and the Gunners are expected to ‘redouble their attempts’ to sign him this month, according to The Athletic.
Arsenal have been linked with a big-money move for a striker all month and Toffees star Calvert-Lewin is among their primary targets.
The Athletic are now reporting that in the final week of the window, they expect the north London club to ‘redouble their attempts’ to sign him and they are not put off by his £60m price tag.
The report also states that a move to Arsenal is something that ‘would appeal’ to Calvert-Lewin as they match his ambition as a club and would see him cement his place in Gareth Southgate’s England squad.
Everton are reluctant to sell midway through the season and are under no pressure to sell with the player having a contract that runs until 2025.
If there is one player that the Toffees can’t afford to lose this month, it’s Dominic Calvert-Lewin.
Goals have dried up for the team this season but he remains the biggest threat in the team when he’s available and is the go-to man across the squad.
News that he would be willing to leave for another Premier League club is likely to be a huge blow, and the fact they’d be willing to match Everton’s value is worrying for the summer.
But for this month, Everton must stand firm. They simply cannot afford to sell him and at this stage of the window if they did, finding a replacement would be nigh-on impossible.
Everton staying in the Premier League is worth far more than the £60m they could receive for Calvert-Lewin, so this should be a no-brainer from the board.
