Everton target Jesse Lingard left in limbo over Manchester United transfer situation

Manchester United attacker Jesse Lingard has reportedly been ‘left in limbo’ over his failed move to Newcastle, amid Everton links.

According to The Daily Express (Jan 28 2022, pg 70), Newcastle were unwilling to match the Red Devils’ valuation over a loan move until the end of the season.

Everton are among a host of Premier League clubs to have made enquiries into the 29-year-old’s availability this month.

He is understood to be looking for an exit before the window closes with deadline day just around the corner.

No thank you

Lingard’s made a career full of bad decisions and this one is the latest in the never-ending list.

He should’ve moved permanently to West Ham when he had the opportunity, but is now stuck at crossroads.

There’s a good chance that he runs out his contract at Old Trafford and leaves for free in the summer.

That is when the Toffees could weigh up their options and see if he’s worth bringing in on a short term basis.

However, as of now, it will be an expensive affair to bring him from Old Trafford to Goodison Park.

Their demands are understood to be way too high for a player of Lingard’s calibre who’s barely featured this season.

The Toffees must look at central midfielders instead and not another attacker.

Despite Lingard’s ability to score “sensational” goals, he’s an extremely hit and miss player and Everton can do without more of those.
