Everton target Kalidou Koulibaly unlikely to pen Napoli extension

Everton linked Kalidou Koulibably may be too expensive for Napoli which makes it nigh on impossible that he signs a new deal there.

According to Italian media outlet Il Mattino, he currently earns a fee in the region of £5million annually.

That’s something that the Serie A side will fail to replicate which could see the Senegal international’s future lie elsewhere.

90min reported in July 2021 that then manager Rafa Benitez was keen on securing his services in the summer transfer window.

It was then claimed that Napoli were looking for a fee in the region of £35million.

However, now that it’ll be a year on from it, they certainly would’ve brought down his asking price.

Italian journalist Ciro Venerato via Spazio Napoli said that even Carlo Ancelotti was an admirer of the defender and wanted to bring him to Goodison Park.

Now, with Frank Lampard at the helm, he will still be looking to secure a centre-back in the summer.

He signed Dele Alli and Donny van de Beek but the defensive options at the club require some strengthening.

At 30, Koulibaly may not be seen as a long-term option, but he could be at the club for the next three or four seasons which could be enough if the project goes well.

The aim is to bring European football back to Goodison Park and having a defender of his stature would go a long way towards achieving that.
