Ex-FIFA official sends message to Bill Kenwright over Everton penalty apology
Former FIFA and Premier League official Keith Hackett urges Everton chief Bill Kenwright to stop putting up with bad refereeing decisions.
Mike Riley, head of the PGMOL, has apologised to the Toffees after they were denied a clear and obvious penalty in the late stages of their 1-0 defeat to Manchester City at the weekend [Sky Sports].
Ex-Sky Sports host Richard Keys says the “incompetence has badly distorted the title race” this season and also called the insistence upon VAR having the final say is scandalous.

Former referee Hackett has replied to Keys’ tweet, urging Kenwright to stop accepting the bad decisions from the PGMOL and also took aim at Riley.
“The Premier League continue to put up with poor officiating,” Hackett wrote via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday [1 March] in response to Keys’ tweet.
“Riley is to blame for his lack of leadership. Does Richard Masters care about his competition?
“Bill Kenwright please do not allow this to happen.”
Rotten PGMOL
We’ve had it and we’re not the only ones.
VAR, despite being around in English football for several years, is still riddled with inconsistencies and simply isn’t fit for purpose.
With each passing season, changes are being made and while it’s not as bad as it was when it was first introduced, we fail to see how anyone can not see the penalty that should’ve been awarded against us at the weekend.
Rodri handled the ball, it’s as clear as day.
Yet VAR hides behind their “clear and obvious” ethos – something which clearly and obviously doesn’t work.
Paul Tierney missed the handball in the game. Fair enough. But go and make him look at the pitchside monitor.
How has someone sat there and thought to themselves, “no, that’s clearly not a penalty”?
It’s baffling and Hackett is right in aiming his rage at Riley because what has he actually done to ensure the smooth introduction of VAR in English football?
Nothing.
