Frank Lampard confirms Vitalii Mykolenko will play in Everton v Boreham Wood

Frank Lampard has confirmed that Everton defender Vitalii Mykolenko will play in the FA Cup fifth-round tie against Boreham Wood on Thursday (3 February).

It’s been really hard for the 22-year-old defender with Ukraine being engaged in a war with Russia.

The Toffees boss has suggested that he will definitely play tomorrow and it is a decision he has taken purely related to the game.

Lampard has said in the press conference, as relayed by journalist Richard Buxton on Twitter: “He will play tomorrow. That was a decision I’d made regardless of the outside situation, purely on football. If there is a gesture it’s the fact that he’s starting the game.”

Liverpool Echo journalist Adam Jones also relayed another statement from the Toffees boss on Mykolenko: “The conversations I’ve had, I’d rather keep quiet because they are delicate. He’s a new player here, he has all our support.”

This is a great gesture from Lampard, and he has made it absolutely clear how the club feel about the situation.

The 22-year-old needs support, and Lampard has come forward to show his full backing to the youngster.

The conversations he had with him shouldn’t be leaked out, and we appreciate the privacy.

Everton, earlier today, have terminated all sponsorship contacts with their Russian sponsors.

Coming back to football, this is a big game for the Toffees and they shouldn’t take it easy.

They are heading into this game on the back of a 1-0 defeat against Manchester City in the Premier League, and need a distraction to get the positive vibe back again.

A big win here will boost the confidence which they can carry forward onto the next games as the Toffees aim to climb up the ladder.

In other Everton news, a Super Computer has predicted if the Toffees will face relegation after their 1-0 defeat v Manchester City.
