Phil Dawkes slams Everton fans for Goodison Park scenes v Boreham Wood

Phil Dawkes has slammed the Everton fans for the scenes at Goodison Park during the Blues clash with Boreham Wood.

The Toffees booked themselves a place in the quarterfinals where they will face Cyrstal Palace at Selhurst Park.

Dawkes reported moans from the Blues fans very early into the first half despite the nature of the tie.

He told BBC Sport: “Such is the brittle confidence of the Everton fans, there are already a few murmurs of discontent when a player sends a pass astray or clears aimlessly.

“In contrast, the Boreham Wood fans have yet to sit down or stop singing.”

Embarrassing

Why anyone in that ground is moaning a matter of ten minutes into the first half is bewildering.

Admittedly the tempo could have been a bit quicker, but when facing non-league opposition, it is only natural that levels drop off a little.

There was nothing in the Toffees performance early in the first half to give any fans the opportunity to moan and there are no excuses for getting on the players’ backs so early.

Boreham Wood started with a lot of energy, keen to impress against a Premier League side.

Despite the fairly slow start, Everton were still in complete control of the tie and should go on to book themselves a place in the quarterfinals without any trouble.

Evertonians need a serious wake-up call. If you can’t simply go to the match and get behind the team no matter how they are playing, don’t go.

Under Frank Lampard these players aren’t just going through the motions, they are trying new things and giving their all for the shirt so the toxic atmosphere in the ground needs leaving behind.
