View: 4/10 shocker for Townsend, Gordon gets 8/10 – Everton player ratings v Boreham Wood

Everton progressed through to the FA Cup quarter-finals despite a not-so-great performance as they beat non-league Boreham Wood 2-0 at Goodison Park.

In a very uneventful first half the Toffees dominated possession but lacked any sort of penetration and were restricted to shots from long range to go in level at half-time.

Frank Lampard’s side started the second half much quicker and got a goal just before the hour when Jonjoe Kenny crossed low for Salomon Rondon to sneak in at the front post and slide the ball past the goalkeeper.

Rondon added a second with five minutes to go when he headed in from a corner, with the goalkeeper not able to claw it out before it crossed the line.

It was a far from memorable performance, but here is how Goodison News rated the players on the night:

Asmir Begovic – 5/10

Had nothing to do all night, but his distribution was a little shaky at times. Showed why he’s the number two.

Nathan Patterson – 6/10

Hooked at half-time despite being the best player on the pitch in the first-half. Weird decision from Lampard, but maybe points at him getting a run-out at the weekend?

Jonjoe Kenny – 7/10

Started at centre-back, moved to right-back and then ended at left-back. A top performance from the youngster, who topped it off with an assist and was dangerous throughout.

Michael Keane – 6/10

Took a few too many touches in possession to slow down the attacks, but defended well all night and was always in control at the back. Looked much more comfortable in a four.

Jarrad Branthwaite – 6/10

Made a good impression and was reliable in both defensive phases and building up the attack.

Vitalii Mykolenko – 6/10

Had a decent showing in the first half and started the second with some good intensity, before going off injured on the hour. Promising signs though.

Allan – 6/10

Made everything tick over in midfield on the ball and was excellent at breaking up the play and sustaining attacks too. Very solid performance.

Abdoulaye Doucoure – 5/10

Only his second game back after five weeks out but he looked leggy. Passing was wayward and sloppy, but his athleticism got him through the game.

Anthony Gordon – 8/10

Certainly Everton’s brightest player over the 90 minutes and while the quality wasn’t always there, the intent was. Clear to see why Lampard likes him so much and Blues fans love him too.

Andros Townsend – 4/10

Not a good game for the former England international at all. Never really got going, made some bad decisions in the final third and his shooting boots got left at home. Never got the better of the Boreham Wood left-back.

Salomon Rondon – 7/10

Started brightly, faded away, then missed a sitter and scored two relatively tough chances. Just another night at the office for the Venezuelan. Don’t expect him to start many more games this season if Lampard can help it.

SUBSTITUTES

Richarlison – 6/10

Immediately injected some pace and quality into the game. Had a goal unfortunately ruled out for handball too, but overall a good performance from the Brazilian.

Seamus Coleman – 5/10

Standard performance from the skipper. Didn’t have much to do defensively and didn’t do much going forward, but didn’t do anything wrong either.

Lewis Dobbin – N/A

Isaac Price – N/A

Reece Welch – N/A
