Everton want to sign Shakhtar Donetsk midfielder Pedrinho

Everton are in the hunt to sign Shakhtar Donetsk attacking midfielder Pedrinho this summer, according to Gazeta Esportiva.

The 23-year-old signed for the Ukrainian club last summer from Benfica but has only played six times for his new club this season.

Recent developments in Ukraine has seen the domestic league rightly postponed and players are now looking elsewhere for their football.

The Brazilian youth international is one of those in need of a new club and Everton are set to battle Wolves for his signature.

He may be persuaded to opt against the Toffees though as Wolves boss Bruno Lage worked with Pedrinho at Benfica before he moved to the Premier League.

No rush

Pedrinho is rather unproven at the highest level having failed to score during his time in Portugal which isn’t really good enough for an attacking midfielder.

Frank Lampard is in the best place to judge goal-scoring midfielders given his own professional career so maybe he sees something in the Brazilian.

With only one other Premier League side currently in the race, there is no big rush to get any kind of deal over the line for the 23-year-old.

There are much more pressing concerns that need addressing right now at Goodison Park with relegation to the Championship a real possibility.

As much as preparedness is a handy thing to have prior to a transfer window, it cannot come at the expense of the on-field performances.

If the Toffees can secure their Premier League status for another year, then they can look to the summer and where they can strengthen, just not now.

In other Everton news, Ian Wright believes this Toffees ace has lost faith in his teammates after their 5-0 hammering away at Tottenham.
