Frank Lampard is showing particular attention to Anthony Gordon and Tom Davies at Everton

Everton manager Frank Lampard is giving Anthony Gordon and Tom Davies particular attention behind the scenes, reports the Daily Mail.

The club are in serious relegation peril following the thrashing at Tottenham this week, and many players are considered to be heading for the exit door on current form, but the local pair appear to have been identified as key for the future.

Dominic King writes in the Daily Mail: “Outside of matchdays, Lampard and his staff are doing all they can to tap into the players and help them improve.

“Lampard has taken a particular shine to Anthony Gordon, with whom he has been having regular tutorials, while he has been eager to keep Tom Davies involved.

“Davies suffered a serious injury last November, one that means he might not play again this season, but Lampard and his assistant Joe Edwards have had meetings with him and put together video clips for him to study so he understands the 43-year-old’s playing style when he returns.”

The focus on Gordon comes as little surprise, with most observers agreeing that he is one of the few, if not only, members of the squad who is coming out of the current mire with any credit.

The 21-year-old winger has had a breakout year amidst the mayhem, and his willingness to put in the effort while everything around him seems to be collapsing has endeared him to fans.

If the club are relegated he would seem to be a clear candidate to lead them in a promotion bid in the Championship, but such is the nature of the poor form throughout the squad he may turn out to be one of the first who other teams come knocking for.

The focus on Davies is more unexpected, with Paul Brown recently telling Give Me Sport that he may be shifted to help address the FFP concerns.

But the focus the manager and his coaching staff are apparently paying to the 23-year-old midfielder suggests they see him as a prominent piece of their plans long term.

Certainly, since he cannot make a difference on the pitch during the relegation battle, it might be a sign that they are beginning contingency plans for an exodus after relegation.

In other Everton news, one pundit has admitted he wouldn’t be surprised if Lampard was sacked before the season ends.
