Dr Dan: Everton cannot be handed points deduction if they face Premier League relegation
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...
Everton will not have their points deducted if they get relegated from the Premier League this season.
That’s according to Dr Dan Plumley who claims that the Toffees will be exempt as the EFL applies different rules.
While their losses will still be beyond the allowed numbers in the Championship, they will have three years to balance their books.

He also believes that if the Premier League want to deduct points, then they must do so now.
However, it appears, they’re waiting to see how the relegation battle transpires for them.
The Sheffield Hallam University expert told Goodison News, “The interesting thing is what the Premier League does here and when they do it because the club are in a big relegation battle.
“If they get relegated, my understanding is that they cannot apply a points deduction in the Championship.
“The acceptable losses are much lower so they will have three years cumulative so it won’t be sanctioned until three years. That’s really interesting.
“If the Premier League want to press the button, they must do it now and effectively relegate them. Or they could wait if they survive and hit them at the start of next season.“

According to The Daily Mail, there are fears within the Toffees that they could be the first top-flight side in England to breach the sustainability rules.
At the start of March, it was understood that they would sit down and conduct conversations with the league and find a resolution.
In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the last week.
