Dr Dan: Everton have significantly breached Premier League rules

We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...

Everton have significantly breached the Profit and Sustainability rules of the Premier League and face potential ramifications.

That’s according to Dr Dan Plumley who believes that the Toffees are now in damage limitation mode.

They have reached an agreement with the league to discuss the transfer fees and salaries so as to not break the P&S rules.

This comes after the Daily Mail reporting that Everton could become the first top flight club in history to be docked points because of this.

In their recent accounts, they showed losses of over £100million for the third straight year.

Discussing this issue with Goodison News, the Sheffield Hallam University expert said,

“It makes sense for the club to try and get in with the Premier League and to make sure that it’s damage limitation.

“We’ve never seen a team being punished in the league for breaking Profit and Sustainability rules.

“There are talks of scrapping FFP across the board now.

“This is a significant breach. They are way over so the Premier League have a big decision to make.

“The reason these rules are there is to stop these things from happening,

Reports also claim that the Toffees will continue to pay their players Premier League wages if they get relegated to the Championship.

Thus far the league have not made an official statement as to whether or not a points deduction is on the cards.

In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the last week.
