View: Crazy Ben Godfrey incident could cost Everton relegation this season

Everton crashing to a 3-2 defeat at Burnley last night was just the latest episode on what has become a horror story this season.

The Toffees really are in a relegation dogfight now with some horror fixtures to come, and they only have themselves to blame.

Relegation has been on our minds for many months, but today was the first morning waking up where it looked more of a reality.

There was one man to blame last night.

Ben Godfrey will not have been able to sleep overnight, and it was his mistake that made this relegation doom become brighter.

With no real danger as the ball came into the box, the defender somehow miskicked his clearance straight to Matej Vydra who set up Maxwel Cornet for the winner.

It was unacceptable, and these are the moments that keep on happening and will eventually be the reason we are relegated should that happen.

Of course, the entire season isn’t just one persons’ fault, but we are in the business end of the campaign now, and people need to be called out.

Embarrassing.

Losing Yerry Mina has been a huge blow this season.

Even when Godfrey has been out, he has been a real miss, but his return has been nothing short of a disaster in recent weeks and months.

It says it all when Jarrad Branthwaite comes in as a young player and outshines the experienced players around him on such a huge night.

If these players don’t want to be in the Championship next season, they are being funny at showing it right now.

Premier League footballers making this many mistakes is unheard of, and not being able to clear one of the worst crosses we have seen, sums it all up.

Godfrey is just the latest in a long line of shocking performances, but unfortunately for him, it came on the biggest night of them all.
