Everton scout Benfica forward Everton Soares

Everton have reportedly scouted their namesake Everton Soares who is currently plying his trade at Portuguese side Benfica.

According to TEAMtalk, the 26-year-old striker is someone their scouts have worked hard on as the club are preparing for a summer move.

He has been eyed as a replacement for Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Richarlison who appear likely to leave at the end of the season.

Worth it?

Goals have come at a premium this season for Everton as they have been an awful team to watch.

There does not appear to be a game plan on the ball and it just seems like a group of players thrown in to play together.

Calvert-Lewin started the season strongly but missed most of the games through injury.

On his return, he seems like a shadow of his old self and Frank Lampard is struggling to get the best out of him.

Signing Soares may not be the worst idea in the world, but his goal-scoring returns aren’t something that will instantly impress fans.

In 91 games for Benfica, he’s only scored 15 goals and provided 18 assists.

What the Toffees need is a striker who scores over 15 per season and he probably is not at that level yet.

Also, with his lack of Premier League experience, this is a player they should avoid signing.

In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the last week.
