Newcastle frontrunners to sign Everton target Christian Eriksen

Newcastle have reportedly emerged as frontrunners to sign Everton target and Brentford attacking midfielder Christian Eriksen.

According to Northern Echo, the Magpies are growing increasingly confident of beating their competition to the Denmark international’s services.

Eriksen has made a tremendous return to the game both with Brentford as well as the national team and will be a free agent at the end of the season unless he signs a new deal with the Bees.

Sign him?

Signing the Denmark international would be a big-name move that the club are in dire need of.

Under Carlo Ancelotti, players that would not move to Goodison Park previously were signed, but since his departure, the arrivals have been underwhelming.

While Eriksen is not the player he once was, he’s still got bucket loads of talent and is proving it at a team like Brentford that was tipped to get relegated.

Everton clearly are a bigger club and Frank Lampard could look to build his side around the Dane if he moves to Goodison Park.

However, as things stand, it seems like Newcastle are leading the race to secure his services.

Due to their super rich owners, they could offer the “phenomenal” midfielder a significant pay hike that might tempt him to move to St. James’ Park.
