Everton are reportedly unwilling to let go of Jonjoe Kenny at the end of the season despite links of a potential summer exit.

According to the Liverpool Echo, the 25-year-old could be set for another year at Goodison Park with the club expected to retain his services.

He has featured significantly in the first team in recent weeks due to injuries in the squad.

The Athletic previously reported that the Toffees were showing little interest in handing him a new deal.

Good move?

Kenny is a player who's flattered to deceive in the past, so we will take this with a pinch of caution.

He has been there for Frank Lampard, who has labelled him "perfect" in an injury crisis and that's possibly what led to him earning some goodwill with the Toffees manager.

However, for him to be at the club for the long term does not really make too much sense.

Kenny is not the kind of player who will take this team to the next level and it's pointless handing him a long-term deal.

At best, he is a squad player who fills in for key first-team players but he can also prove to be a defensive liability.

Due to their financial constraints, it's understandable why they're so hell-bent on retaining some of their players but if there's an option to get someone better than Kenny then they must take that up.
