Dr Dan: New FFP regulations could hurt Everton
We’re delighted to welcome football finance expert Dr Daniel Plumley as our exclusive columnist. Each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Everton...
Everton must worry about the new proposed FFP regulations despite not competing in European competitions.
That’s according to Dr Dan Plumley who claims that the Toffees will have to spend more to get to that next level while also facing issues of their own.
Currently, they’re flirting with a Premier League points deduction and the league could also alter their rules to bring down the wages to turnover ratio.

Per BBC, the new regulations would limit spending on wages, transfers and agents’ fees to 70 per cent of clubs’ revenue from 2025.
Discussing this situation with Goodison News, the Sheffield Hallam University expert said, “For clubs outside of the elite, the ones trying to get into Europe, especially in Everton’s case, you’ve got to bring costs down because you’ve got that big issue with FFP.
“They’ll have to catch teams going the other way and that’s going to mean investment in new talent which involves bigger transfer fees and wages.
“Clubs that are trying to catch up with the rest are the ones I would worry about [after the new rules].
“Relegation is also another factor that will through all these things into the mix.
“They may have to realign their wages to turnover ratio as well if the Premier League decide to step in so it’s a precarious situation.”

Everton are still in a relegation fight despite securing a big win over Manchester United.
They remain just three points clear of Burnley who have recently sacked their manager in a bid to avoid relegation.
In other Everton news, a football finance expert has made a claim on the new Toffees stadium amid a major £300m development in the last week.
