View: Mason Holgate may never play for Everton again after major Yerry Mina news

Everton defender Mason Holgate is certainly one of those fighting for his future at Goodison Park in the next month.

Frank Lampard will go into his first summer in charge soon should he keep the Toffees in the Premier League.

That will no doubt see a clearout with numerous players not carrying their weight for years now, no matter who is in charge.

Holgate has only been used as an emergency option in recent weeks.

The defender was used in midfield against West Ham with injuries leaving options limited in the middle of the park.

Even if he did score, we have not seen anything from him since that day at the London Stadium, and he will have to be worried.

Michael Keane and Ben Godfrey have been used in defence since, and it got even worst for Holgate with news over the past week that Yerry Mina has returned to training.

No chance.

Despite being a mainstay of this squad for many years, there comes a time when you simply have to be moved on.

Is Jarrad Branthwaite a better option than Holgate now? If so, then that makes him the fifth choice in terms of central options.

Holgate has made 16 starts this season in the Premier League, and that is only two less than Anthony Gordon who has been the saviour at times.

With Mina back in contention, it looks as though the Englishman has little to no hope of nailing down a spot under Lampard.

We would rather bring in a younger, hungrier option like we have with Branthwaite and Godfrey in recent years and build around them, which may see Holgate never play for the club again.

Out with the old, in with the new.
